on Tallman Mountain - Continues

Friday 7/11/2025
It's early Friday morning and we are on the hunt
for more big rocks

PIPC to the rescue,
with Joe and Jake using heavy equipment

Using an excavator,
Jake has this big rock under control

This one is destined to be our top platform

Uh oh a little malfunction

Hydraulic fluid is leaking

Jake does a quick repair
and we're back in business

Now harvesting rocks from the gully

There's a lot of big rocks for us to harvest

One by one Jake picks them up
and puts them in the truck

One more big one and we have enough
… for now

After a short trip, we're back at Tallman
and ready to dump the rocks

Now that's a nice pile of rocks.
Break out the hammer drill and split these rocks

Not everyone went to harvest rocks,
most stayed at the worksite building trail

With Dan on belay and George on the griphoist

Big rocks are on the move again

Measure measure measure.
How many steps do we need to reach the top?

The new path will go up through here

It's a slow process, but it does get done right

Lunch break, 14 volunteered today

After lunch, it's back to building more steps

And continue making the new path

Back at the rock pile,
Howie starts splitting big rocks

Two done, but many more to go

End of day crew meeting, we'll be back tomorrow

First, we pull it across the road

We don't need no stinking equipment.
We just muscle it down the hill

Some working on the diversion channel,
others building more steps

Before we build steps, we build crib wall

Team Rubicon continues to improve
the water diversion channel

Aly is knee deep and having oodles of fun

Back at the rock pile, Peter has the next one ready

And away it goes,
now that's a creative use of a sling

Howie and Terri keep splitting big rocks

All these rocks have to be moved
down to the staging area

Once at the staging area,
Tom puts a sling around it

And it goes down the hill and into position

Lunch break. Wow 18 Volunteers out today

This rock is too big to be moved by blue tubs.
Park manager, Clark Alexandre lends a hand
and by hand, I mean a Bobcat

Using the Bobcat and rock bars as rails,
Clark pulls it across the road

And down the hill

Then pushes it the final yards to the staging area

Today the dirt is hard, dry and very dusty

Jeff, Branson and Peter have moved this rock
into position to be split

10:30, time for our safety break

After break, it's back to moving big rocks

Anna splits this one apart using the cold chisel

A nice clean straight break it is

Water diversion crosses the trail,
with water going over a big platform rock

Marty working to trim a little off

Marty knows we need a clean flat break

And we get one
