Friday morning and still no rain

A crew of 15 volunteers out today

9 am, Howie and Kevin
already working on the next step.
Trinity starts making crush

Len holding the highline, is waiting for the block,
so he can move this rock

It's break time already, no rain but plenty of sun

After break,
Marion and Marty get back to moving big rocks

… with Sandy on belay

… and Tom on the griphoist

This big rock is on the way to highline #2

Jim takes control and sets it on the ground

At the worksite, Howie & Len plan their next move.
They have beautifully cut stones to work with

Lunch break! We were so busy this morning
we didn't take many pictures

Time to move gravel down to the worksite

A thin piece of plywood in the bottom of the bag
keeps the bag from collapsing

Elsewhere at the worksite,
it was back to moving big rocks

Dr. Dave and Dan added a custom made trail sign.

With new steps and sign,
this section is very inviting

The end of the day came so fast,
but we are all looking forward to tomorrow

Another beautiful Saturday morning,
we have a crew of 17 volunteers out today

8:50 am and the topside part of our crew
is already in action

Polecat Peter is moving the worksite highline,
so it will be centered over the new path

Zac, Howie and Len planning for the next step

At the topside staging pile, rocks are lined up
waiting to go for a ride on the highline

TC waits for each rock at the end of highline #1

He will take it off the highline
and set it in this new storage pile

Just uphill of the new sign,
a massive water-bar is being constructed

We're trying to keep the trail sustainable
by directing excessive water away from the path

Lunch break. Sit, rest, eat and enjoy this great weather

Now on high-line #3,
Len will move this rock into position

Peter takes a turn and catches the next one

End of the day on Saturday,
the top side staging pile is shrinking fast

3 pm crew meeting
and the weather is just getting better

Early Sunday morning,
another set of Long Path steps just off the circle

Time to sign in and pick up tools

Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to work we go,
Russ heads out with tools and 2 rock bars

Topside task #1,
After break, highline #1 is coming down

Jim stands by assisting Trinity with the griphoist

TC on belay guides each rock downhill

When not making crush, Terri keeps the site safer
by raking away the dry slippery leaves

Joe announces last rock for this season for highline #1

These two steps were placed before safety break.
We're really moving along today.

Down at the worksite, another step is set into place

After break, the worksite crew
gets ready to lift a big crib-wall rock

Big rocks like this one, make for a sturdy crib-wall

Way over there is Joe,
using the griphoist to do the heavy lifting

He might be out of the way,
but his view of our new trail is awesome

Before setting it into place,
we do a quick dimensions check

Russ fine tunes the base for this big rock

Then it is brute strength that gets it into place

Now stabilize it and chock it so it doesn't move

The rock is down. Time to look for the next one.

Nearby, TC digs up more mineral soil

No surprise, Terri has been making buckets full of crush

While that was going on,
other crew members continue to take down highline #1

Of course that means Peter goes way up into the tree

He gets close, but just not high enough

Ok then, he climbs into the tree and finds a place to sit

Tom on safety belay, keeping polecat Peter secure

The next step is on its way to the worksite

We disconnect it from highline #2,
and connect it to highline #3, our worksite highline

Now securely connected to highline #3,
its Tension Hoist!

'Tension Hoist!' is Jim's call to action

Bob takes control of the rock on the line

Trying to decide what side is up

Joe pulls it into position

It doesn't quite fit,
so Howie breaks away some bedrock

With the bedrock cleared, Len sets the step into place

Looks great… crush it in

Trinity has crush all ready to go

We use lots of crush and really pack it in

Next rock going in is a step/water-bar

This sturdy anchor rock,
is the last rock we put in this weekend

Our work day is over,
time to head back up to the parking lot We had a great weekend with lots of new crib-wall and 8 new steps

Sunday afternoon, our topside staging rock pile is gone,
just a small group left to move

End of day, end of weekend crew meeting.
Our last crew outing for 2024 will be December 6,7& 8
