Piermont NY Lot D

Crew will split into 2 groups
1 going to Tackamack Park, 1 going to Hook Mt.

At Tackamack Park, Chris assembles the climbing gear

Zack sees the problem first hand,
this bridge has been washed off it's abutment

Now Zack is on belay,
and Joe is working the haul line

That's the chief up there,
setting the rigging to support the high-line

Next step, connect the highline to the bridge

Being creative with rock bars,
we prepare to lift the bridge

Joe works the grip-hoist

And the bridge is in the air

Chris helps guide it into position

Close but… we need to build a new abutment,
we'll be back tomorrow

Over on Hook Mountain,
there is an erosion problem

Katie, Marty and Marion get to work clearing the gully

A gully was widened and dug deeper,
adding armor stones at the most vulnerable areas

Now with the gully cleaned out
Russ and Jeff search for pavers

It was wet, it was sloppy, it was yucky

Jeff shows us why safety glasses are always important

The number one item we need?,
is Crush,
I bet you guessed it

If we can't find enough on the ground
we make it

In addition to the gully,
we are adding a few steps

Yup, that's Marion making more crush

We got a lot done today,
we will be back tomorrow to complete this project

Both groups returned to Lot D
for our end of day crew meeting

Saturday June 1, 2024,
group 2 arrives at Hook Mountain

New volunteer Luca, works with Bob,
to add pavers to a wet area

Rich finds more crush,
we always need more crush

Moving a paver downhill using gravity

With the gully complete,
it's now all hands on the pavers

Here it's new volunteer Chiara making crush

Now using her hands to clear some dirt

Using the 4 person sling to move this paver

Adding one more water-bar,
is the last item on our agenda

Sitting and making crush
is very cathartic

Just ask Terri, I'm sure she'll agree

Luca and Russ add the last rock to the water-bar

Add crush for drainage,
more will be added before we are done

Our work here is finished, time to go

Yes, that is Russ carrying two rock-bars in his pack

We're done here,
let's pack the truck and head back to Lot D

Over with group one,
a big rock is on the move

Joe makes a bed of crush
for it to rest on

Dr. Dave stopped by right after eye surgery,
wishing him a speedy recovery
and get back with us asap

Morning meeting in Lot D

Crew arrives at Tallman Mountain

First we have to set a highline,
this is a very active worksite

Crew Chief Chris, is our polecat for today

This connection has to be set really high up in the tree

I mean really high

Just how high up is he going?

Wow! He is so high up, he's out of sight

Here is where he climbed to,
and secured one end of the highline

Oh boy, these rocks are HUGE!

New work begins where we stopped last year

That's Dan digging a footing for the next step

Safety break time, everyone stops and takes a rest

Safety break over, it's back to work

After setting it in place, Len adds the mineral soil

Time to test the highline,
we learned this setup needs to be reconfigured

End of weekend crew meeting
and a time to plan for our next outing

Marty's truck is loaded again,
it's time to go home
